English and Maths

At Lainesmead, learning experiences are carefully structured so that children always feel encouraged and motivated to achieve their potential.  Teachers can plan the learning to support individuals who may be experiencing difficulty as well as extending and challenging children who are more able.

Children are taught mostly by their class teacher. However in some year groups English and Maths are delivered to groups that are set according to ability. This means that they will cover the same work as the parallel group, but for some children the pace of the delivery will be slower or they will be supported with a different range of resources.

We use a variety of teaching methods and resources to meet the needs of the different learning styles of the children. Sometimes the learning will be teacher led at other times pupils will learn independently or in a group.

Children will also develop their mathematical, reading and writing skills across all the school subjects in their class, using and applying them in a whole range of ways. Role play, drama and educational visits are all exciting and stimulating ways we use to encourage learning at Lainesmead.
